Historic balcony seats brought back into use at former cinema which is now a Wetherspoons pub

Customers will be able to sit in cinema seats to drink and dine when a Stafford town centre boozer reopens after the current lockdown.

The Picture House, one of Stafford’s two JD Wetherspoon branches, started life more than 100 years ago as a cinema before being converted into a pub in more recent times.

The Bridge Street venue, which is currently closed as part of national lockdown restrictions, was Grade II listed in 1988 because of its historic and architectural significance. When it became a pub the indoor balcony area was made inaccessible to the public and the staircases were removed, but the cinema seats were left in place.
