Former Scunthorpe cinema owner Gerald Parkes made MBE in New Year Honours

A former cinema owner in Scunthorpe and an ex-police commander of the district are both honoured in the New Year Honours List.

Gerald Parkes, who is made an MBE, owned the Majestic Cinema in Oswald Road but closed the five-screen entertainment venue in 2003, following the opening of the £6-million Vue cinema in the town’s Parishes shopping mall.
