Exciting New Cinema Operator Opportunity

posted in: All News | 0

Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council are happy to announce an exciting opportunity that has become available for an operator for a brand new cinema on the seafront in Redcar, Yorkshire following the demise of the original Regent Cinema which closed in 2018 as many aspects of the building had deteriorated beyond economic repair. Following the cinemas demolition in 2020, the Council is busy constructing a brand new Regent on the same site, which is due to be complete and fitted out by the spring of 2022. In terms of design, the interior has been heavily influenced by the art deco style and will be fitted out to a high standard. The attached document contains architects CGIs for your information.

The site of the Regent Cinema has played a key part in Redcar’s cultural offer for over 140 years and is held in high regard by the local community. The new Regent Cinema will comprise three screens (35, 55 and 95 seats) and will include a fully fitted café bar including kitchen/servery to cater for extensive menu options. The café bar will have 44 covers internally and a 20 cover external terrace that will provide dramatic views out to sea across Redcar Beach. Movie buffs may recognise the beach, as it featured in the Oscar winning film Atonement, starring Keira Knightley and James McAvoy.

As construction progresses and we start to move out of the restrictions brought about by the pandemic, we are requesting Invitations to Confirm Interest (ITCI) from potential operators who can ensure the Regent will become a sustainable, community-focussed destination in the Tees Valley and beyond, providing a hub for residents and visitors alike. The Councils ambition is for the new Regent Centre to be a high-quality, yet affordable destination which will cater for all members of the community.

The capital costs of the development are being covered by the Council, including all projection, sound, servers, screens and auditorium seating. The bar servery and kitchen will also be fully fitted out including fixed and loose café furniture.
