DTS partner Starbreeze Studios won the Advanced Imaging Society’s “VR Award: Best Immersive Experience” at the 10th Annual Lumiere Awards. Their location-based VR experience, Hero, an interactive VR experience in a Syrian war zone, was produced in partnership with DTS to enhance the experience through immersive sound technology.

To create Hero’s multi-sensory experience, the DTS team installed 30 strategically positioned cinema grade loudspeakers and four 18-inch cinema subwoofers on Hero’s 20 x 30 foot set powered by 10,000 watts of amplification to create a fully immersive ambient environment with specific directional sonic events that take place during the experience. The entire soundfield was delivered via DTSX object-based audio with the QSC Qsys system using methodologies never before used to achieve an amazing lifelike audio experience.

The Lumiere Awards recognize outstanding international achievement in the creation of immersive storytelling using advanced visual technologies, including VR and AR.
